My parents had just moved to the Althabaskan village of Tanana located on the confluence of the Tanana and Yukon rivers in the center of the State of Alaska. I was only a 3 month old baby. My mom introduced me to the ladies as Amy Sue. All of the women immediately exclaimed “ohhh Amy Sitsoo!” My mother asked what Sitsoo meant. They told her it means Grandmother. So I have been called Amy Sitsoo since I was 3 months old. When I see my Athabaskan friends they still call me Sitsoo even though I am yet to be a Grandmother.
